چکیده مقاله:

Purpose: There are a few researches regarding the effects of Islamic fasting on visual system. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Ramadan fasting on the amplitude of accommodation (AA), near point of convergence (NPC), positive and negative fusional vergences (PFV and NFV, respectively) in visually healthy fasters. Methods: AA, NPC, PFV and NFV at far (6m) and near (40cm) were measured in 30 male students. Nutritional habits in a week before each examination visit were assessed with the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Results: Mean age and fasting average experience were 23.9 and 10 years, respectively. AA and NPC showed significant changes (p

Cues for the control of ocular accommodation and vergence during postnatal human development.

Accommodation and vergence help maintain single and focused visual experience while an object moves in depth. The relative importance of retinal blur and disparity, the primary sensory cues to accommodation and vergence, is largely unknown during development; a period when growth of the eye and head necessitate continual recalibration of egocentric space. Here we measured the developmental impo...

Increased onset of vergence adaptation reduces excessive accommodation during the orthoptic treatment of convergence insufficiency

This research tested the hypothesis that the successful treatment of convergence insufficiency (CI) with vision-training (VT) procedures, leads to an increased capacity of vergence adaptation (VAdapt) allowing a more rapid downward adjustment of the convergence accommodation cross-link. Nine subjects with CI were recruited from a clinical population, based upon reduced fusional vergence amplitu...

Optically induced changes in the couplings between vergence and accommodation.

Vergence-induced accommodation (V-A) and accommodation-induced vergence (A-V) were measured in human subjects before and after they had worn various optical devices for 30 min. Laterally displacing periscopic spectacles, which increase the required change in vergence per unit change in accommodation, caused decreases and increases in the gain of V-A and A-V responses, respectively. These observ...

Fusional Vergence Dysfunction a Case Report

Fusional vergence dysfunction is a binocular condition that is relatively easy to diagnose and treat but is often overlooked. FVD can negatively impact an individual’s ability to function, particularly when performing near work. A 17-year-old white female presented to our clinic with visual symptoms associated with sustained near work. The findings were characterized by normal phorias, poor but...

The role of accommodative convergence at the limits of fusional vergence.

Two possible explanations are presented for the mechanism which limits the maximum fusional vergence response. An experimental paradigm is developed to differentiate between these alternatives. Experimental results indicate that the blur generally associated with strong fusional effort is due to convergence accommodation "overdrive." Th important theoretical and clinical implications of this fi...
